Hockey and netball tour

Twenty-six of our hockey and netball players enjoyed an exciting start to their summer break this year by taking part in a fourteen day development tour of Singapore and Malaysia. The tour began in the city state of Singapore, moved on to the vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur and finished in the beach resort of Penang.

Over the fourteen days the two squads faced a gruelling schedule. The netball squad played six fixtures. Five were played against school opposition and the King’s netballers won all of these games convincingly, using their tactical knowledge to full effect. They faced the Singapore U17 VII early in the tour and despite playing some very strong netball, the pace of the game and the intense humidity proved too much. The hockey squad had five fixtures to play against a mixture of club and school sides. The squad defeated the local school sides comfortably but found the club opposition more of a challenge. They only lost one fixture to a very accomplished Malaysian side in Penang.

When not on court the girls took in the cultural sights of all their destinations, including a bum boat journey along the Singapore River, the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, the King of Malaysia’s palace and a trip up the 272 steps of the Batu Caves. Sam Clark, Co-Director of Sport said: “This was a fantastic sporting and cultural experience for all the girls, and one that will be remembered for years to come.”
