James wins Road to Wimbledon

Fourth former James Marsalek has taken another huge step forward in his tennis career by winning the 2006 Road to Wimbledon 14 and Under Challenge. 128 of the country's top young players converged on the famous courts of SW19 during the summer for this highly popular tournament, designed to identify the next generation of potential grand slam winners.

James enjoyed top seed ranking, and made a blistering start to the final, reeling off eight successive games, before beating Surrey's Joe Salisbury 6-0 6-3. He's now officially ranked as the country's No 1.

"I really enjoyed the final," said James. "My plan was to play my own game, attacking from the back, and it worked very well. I've never been to Wimbledon before and I've never played on grass, but it was a really good event, the best I have ever played in."
