World-class double hockey pitches
Two Great Britain hockey players recently visited King's to open our new international standard double all-weather sports pitches. The new facility was built by the country's leading sports construction company, Spade Oak. The pitches were officially opened by GB hockey forward Simon Mantell, and GB Under 21 goalkeeper, Maddie Hinch, a former pupil of King's.A spokesman for Spade Oak said: "Following our successful work at sister school King's Hall, Spade Oak were delighted to be chosen to build on that success with the double pitch project at King's College. We installed two full-size hockey pitches, with spectator areas, full floodlighting and fencing. The playing surface is sand-dressed and meets the highest specification. King's can now boast a world-class hockey facility for the South West of England."
The new double all-weather sports pitch at King's enables pupils to play regardless of the conditions, with floodlights ensuring that short winter days do not disturb training schedules. Headmaster at King's, Richard Biggs, is also keen to promote community use of the new pitches. King's already supports various local groups by allowing them the use of the existing sports facilities. Mr Biggs said "We are delighted with our new world-class hockey facility. Our pupils, and the local community, now have access to two superb pitches. We are now a major venue on the South West hockey scene".
