Hockey v Sherborne

After a slow start in which the 1st XI gifted Sherborne two early goals, the side rallied well and Owen Davies slotted home a short corner to bring us back into the game. However a whole host of missed opportunities meant we spent much of the rest of the game on the back foot. The 2nds had an evenly matched game, and a good second-half performance led to a superbly taken goal by Tom Drysdale. The strong Sherborne side though scored three goals on the break. The 3rds gave away a penalty early on followed by another goal, and though Nick Mason pulled one back after the break, Sherborne were always comfortable with their lead.

The Senior Colts had a great win, looking the better side from the start, but conceding a first goal on the break. Todd Barrett equalised, and added two further goals, and though Sherborne scored a late consolation three minutes from the end, we kept our heads to secure a well-deserved win. For the Bs it was their first match of the season, and Sherborne took advantage of our lack of match practice. It says a great deal for the character and determination of the side that we stuck to our task, and were unlucky not to score in the second half.

It was champagne hockey throughout from the Junior Colts, as they romped to a 4-1 win. Man of the match Matt Richards scored twice in a dominant display. The Bs were unlucky not to win, but we failed to convert our opportunities. Kelvin Choi was player of the match.

The Under 14s were 3-1 up with just seven minutes to go, but the flood gates opened and we conceded three times to lose in devastating fashion. The Bs started well with Will Fung scoring a tap-in from a good cross. In the second half Sherborne were allowed into the circle too often, and although Ben Pritchard scored a penalty, it was not enough. The Cs looked a bit leaky in defence, but held out until just before half-time. After the break another goal spurred King's on, but the damage had been done.
