Football v Malvern

The 1st XI went a goal down very early on against the defending Mercian League champions, but we didn’t let our spirits flag, and could easily have gone into the half-time break ahead. For much of the second half a draw looked the most likely outcome, with the midfield working tirelessly. Matt Griffiths and Archie Berrow played particularly well, and the back four cancelled out Malvern's very skillful attack. We conceded a late second, but we should take plenty of positives from a very accomplished performance. The 2nds' match, as expected, proved very challenging - after a nervous start we conceded a quick goal followed by a penalty. We improved greatly though and put pressure on the opposition, but Malvern continued to find the net in the second half - the King's goal came from Aminu Waziri.

The Under 15s found themselves up against a team that had played together for a year already, so it was always going to be tough for this inexperienced King's side. But there were some excellent individual performances, particularly from Ryan May, Archie Watts and Francesco Roggia. Connor McKenna was man of the match for his outstanding game in goal - Ryan May was the King's goalscorer.
