Success at Bryanston Sevens

The 1st VII had an outstanding day at the Bryanston Sevens tournament, bringing home the Plate trophy with some scintillating, flowing rugby. Given their lack of preparation time, it was perhaps inevitable that they should lose their opening match against national champions Wellington College. However there were many encouraging signs, and convincing wins over Canford and Downside resulted in qualification for the knockout stages of the Plate competition.

A 50-7 demolition of Lytchett Minster in the quarter-final was a real boost to confidence, and a superb 24-14 defeat of Marlborough College set us up nicely for the final against Blundell's.

Early tries by Greg Moody and Alex Barrow gave us a 10-0 lead, but Blundell's struck back late in the game with two tries, including one conversion, which left them 12-10 in the lead with only seconds remaining. Strong running though from Luke Gavin, combined with excellent support by Alex Barrow, saw James Huxtable burst through to score the try and claim victory. A brilliant 15-12 win, and Plate Champions!
