Skiing success for girls
A team of King's girls competed at the recent British Schoolgirls Championships in Flaine, France. The team of Hollie Bell (14), Milla Bell (14) and Virginia Nash (15) was one of fifty teams competing. This is the first time that the girls have been able to represent King's College, and it reunites the successful team from King's Hall that finished second in their age group two years ago. With one hundred and fifty girls competing there was stiff competition in all age groups and the girls acquitted themselves extremely well.Skiing two runs of giant slalom and two runs of slalom in good conditions, the team finished 11th overall out of the British based teams. Racing against teams from across the country our girls were part of a strong contingent from the South West, which included teams from Bryanston, Millfield, Sherborne and Cheltenham.
Individually the girls were very well placed. Milla just missed out on a podium position, finishing 5th in the giant slalom. In the slalom Milla again just missed the podium, finishing 4th which placed her 4th overall in her age group. Hollie finished 6th overall after the two disciplines and Virginia 16th in a very competitive junior section.
Given that all the girls are still only in their second year at King's and that they were skiing against girls four years older than them, the future for competitive skiing at King's does indeed look bright!
