ESU winners

Three of our 4th form pupils have won the branch final of the English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition, which was held at Queen's towards the end of January. Beating six other teams, they will now go forward to the South West finals of this prestigious national competition.

Jordan Webb spoke on 'Diet and Exercise Have Become Modern Obsessions', answering questions from another team and the audience totally unprepared.  Henry Walker questioned another speaker on 'Modern Art Is Worthless'. He did this with great aplomb, demonstrating an ability to "think on his feet". Hannah Cartwright conducted the proceedings as chairman with finesse and charm.

This victory follows the recent success of the King's Debating Team, who have gone through to the branch final of the Schools' Mace debating competition, having won their local heat.
