Hockey v Sherborne

The 1st XI took the lead early on through a smart finish by Charlie Marr, but missed short corner chances cost us dear. Sherborne took their chances well on the counter-attack, but in defence skipper Tom Halliday, alongside James Scanlan and Michael Ellis had strong games, with goalkeeper Harry Brimacombe outstanding in goal. It was a good performance by the 2nds against a tidy Sherborne side. Henry Cunningham's goal was well poached, and Rob Seabourne again excelled in goal. The 3rds were outclassed on the break - they had many shots on goal but none went in!

It was a scrappy game for the Senior Colts, who had far more clear-cut chances than the opposition. An excellent goal by Harry Canning was cancelled out by a late Sherborne goal, preventing a victory which should have been ours. The Bs endured a boring 0-0 first half, but after the interval took part in an eight-goal thriller! Disappointing defence, but good attacking play, with Alex Creswick and Tom Smith particularly catching the eye.

The Junior Colts had a superb victory, coming back from behind twice in the match. There were moments of excellent structure, and some fine finishing, with George Wayman and Dominic Bracher scoring twice each. The Bs dominated for long periods of their game, with David McNeill and Howard Hollis scoring good goals from open play. Unfortunately we conceded three disappointing breakaway goals.

In a first half of dynamic, exciting hockey, the Under 14s tore through Sherborne's defence. Two goals apiece for James Walsh and Robin Danaher set up a convincing 4-1 win. The Bs put in a good team performance, with George Bayless and Guy Jones particularly strong in defence. 1-0 down at half-time we played with purpose and determination, but couldn't quite find the equaliser. The Cs, even in the absence of their coach, secured a great 1-0 win, with skipper Jack Williams finding the net. There was great work in defence and an excellent effort from Sam Matthews, with Ivo Gavin also playing well.
