Chapel centenary
Last term, we celebrated 100 years of worship in the King's Chapel, with a celebration Eucharist and an array of musical events that demonstrate how strong the school's Christian roots still are in 2008. The Chapel was dedicated by Bishop Robertson of Exeter on February 8th 1908, and over the past century it has become central to the daily lives of generations of King's pupils. Recently the Chapel has had a new pulpit, whilst new choir robes have also been purchased in honour of the centenary.During a week of celebrations the main event was a special Eucharist with many VIP guests coming back to King's for the service. Preaching at the service was David Exham, a former member of staff at King's, and former headmaster of Bloxham School. Renowned choral conductor Bob Chilcott also worked with the King's choir, winners of the BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir of the Year 2007, in a choir concert. Bob composed 'Be Thou My Vision', the Songs of Praise winning item.
There were two organ recitals during the week, with a concert performed by Nicholas Shaw, an ex-Chapel Royal organist, on the Monday, followed the next day by a recital from our own college organist, James Campbell. Then on the Wednesday, the Spring Concert took place, offering fantastic musical entertainment from the various instrumental ensembles at King's.
