Peter wins top music award

Peter Oakley has won the Taunton Young Musician of the Year Competition 2007. Following the first round held in November, 13 young hopefuls went through to the semi-finals, and produced a standard of performance that the three judges said made it almost impossible to narrow the field down to a final five.

When they finally reached their decision, Peter found himself up against an oboist, a baritone, a pianist and a bassoon player. After each student performed their 20-minute recital, adjudicator Graeme Humphrey announced that this year's winner was indeed our own Peter Oakley.

Prizes and trophies were presented by the Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Chris Hindley, who told the assembled company how impressed he was with the standard of musicianship displayed by the young people of Taunton.
