West of England 7s triumph

In the final competition before the Rosslyn Park National Sevens, the King's Under 16s romped to victory in the West of England tournament, remaining undefeated all day. Ironically, their toughest match was the first group game against Birchgrove, from which King's emerged 12-10 winners. After that there were comfortable wins against Clifton 28-0, King's Bruton 24-0 and Cheltenham College 17-0.

King's Gloucester were brushed aside 31-5 in the semi-final, before Plymouth College were demolished 62-7 in the final. King's played some lovely rugby throughout the tournament, but their defensive play and particularly their tackling was superb. Ed Dawson ended up top try scorer with 10, and there were other good performances from Tom Danaher, Will McKegney and Tom Halliday.

In an excellent day for King's rugby, the 1st VII won the plate competition, beating Downside 17-0 and Cheltenham College 31-0. In the semi-final they came up against Bryanston, unbeaten last term, and Rugby World's Team of the Month in January. A 21-12 victory set up a final against QEH Bristol, a rather one-sided affair as King's ran out 39-5 winners.
