Debaters through to district final

King's is through to the South West area final of the English Speaking Union Mace Debating Competition. They came through a tough district final held at Teign School Newton Abbot last week.

16-year old Caroline Tecks from Stoke St Gregory and 18-year old James Walker from Lydeard St Lawrence argued against the motion 'This House would legalise euthanasia', and faced intense opposition from Truro School, Bournemouth School for Girls, Teign School, Kelly College and Budmouth Technology College.

Now they go on to the area final, which takes place at Hereford Cathedral School, and are just one step away from the national final, which is to be held this year at Dartmouth House, ESU headquarters in London.

"I'm really excited for Caroline and James," said debating coach at King's Gerri Fagan. "They're a pleasure to work with, and deserve to go all the way this year."
