Visit to HMS Richmond

Before the end of half term, the Royal Naval section of the King's College CCF visited their affiliated ship, HMS Richmond. The section, under the leadership of Lt Cdr Mark Smith, Lt Laurie Mason and 2nd Lt Maria Duckham, travelled to Portsmouth on Monday afternoon, spending the night on HMS Bristol on Whale Island and joining HMS Richmond early on Tuesday morning.

Beautiful warm weather added to the excitement of the day, which involved sailing out of port and practising manoeuvres like ‘man overboard’, a ‘forced roll’ – where the ship's stabilisers are deliberately used to roll the ship sharply from port to starboard – and firing the small guns from the deck. We also visited the operations room where a missile attack was simulated and dealt with.
