Track and Field Success for Ellie

Fourth Form pupil Ellie Carrow has qualified for the English Schools Athletics National Final in the triple jump in Birmingham.

After two days of intense competition, Ellie also secured one of the two automatic qualifying places from the South West region for the English Schools Athletics National heptathlon final in Boston, Lincolnshire on the weekend of the 26 and 27 September after finishing 5th.

She managed to set five personal bests out of the seven events, scoring 249 more points than when she took part in the County Competition in April. She finished with a total of 4258 points – this included a 1.01m improvement, a school record in the shot putt (10.63m) and she carved 0.79secs off her 200m best (26.77s).

Commenting on her success, coach Steve Shaw said: ”Ellie has been competing against older girls in the U17 category for both events. This is a fantastic achievement for Ellie, who is 15. I would have expected her to achieve these feats next year, so to have reached the finals this year is just fantastic!”

Ellie currently holds six King’s College age group records.
