The Sound of Music – This Year's School Musical
This year’s musical is The Sound of Music. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to perform the masterpiece as a celebration of one of the most loved musicals of all time.
The musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether she is suited to her calling as a nun. She falls in love with the children and, eventually, their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide to flee Austria, with the children, and use their musical talent as a cover for their escape. Many songs from the musical have become standards, such as Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Do-Re-Mi, and the title song The Sound of Music.
The performances are from Wednesday 7 December to Saturday 10 December starting at 7.30pm in the Theatre. On Friday 9 December, the performance is slightly different: it is a sing-a-long. The audience is the star of the show and almost anything can happen – the first rule of sing-a-long is that there are no rules! A host leads the audience through a vocal warm up and gives a comprehensive guide to the accompanying actions and use of an interactive fun pack. We encourage the audience to dress up as there will be a costume parade. You can dress up as anything and everything represented in the classic musical – the possibilities are endless!
Tickets are priced at £8 for adults, £5 for children and KST pupils will not be charged. The Friday night sing-a-long will be £10 for adults and all children (including pupils) will be £5. King’s staff only will be free of charge on all evenings. Tickets are available from reception: firstname.lastname@example.org/01823 328200
