Sarah Scores Stateside Scholarship
A dream has come true for King’s College pupil Sarah Hill, who has just been awarded a football scholarship by Concord University in West Virginia, USA and will be one of their 14 new signings for the 2017 season.
The 18-year-old, who hails from Long Sutton, started playing football with her brothers at the age of five. Sarah joined King’s on a scholarship, and helped them to win the Independent Schools’ Football Association (ISFA) Girls’ Eleven-a-Side cup and the Somerset Colleges’ Girls’ Under 19 trophy.
In addition to this, the striker has represented the England ISFA national side and the England Schools’ Girls’ Under 18s, as well as playing for Yeovil Town and Exeter City Ladies Football Clubs.
Back in the autumn, Sarah was a member of the King’s College girls’ squad that went on a football tour to North America. It here that she was first spotted.Sarah said: “I’m so thrilled to have received this opportunity, although the realisation hasn’t quite hit me yet. I’ve been striving towards this for so long.”
She added: “I would like to thank all my coaches, family and friends who have provided continuous support and belief in my ambition to pursue football to a high level in the USA. I just cannot wait to embark on this exciting new journey.”
Chris Heayns, Director of Football at King’s College said: “Sarah is a quality player and has certainly made the most of the opportunities that she has been given in football. I am so pleased for her.”
He added: “Since joining King’s she has been an invaluable member of the girls’ football team and her example will be one that many other girls at school will want to follow.”
