Sam Cobb – All-Round Athlete

Third Form pupil Sam Cobb enjoyed considerable success on the two occasions that he took part in the Longrun Meadow Park Run recently.

On 22 October the 13-year-old entered the junior event for the first time and won the 11-14 age group, with a time of 6 minutes 32 seconds for the 2km course.

A week later he decided to enter the men’s 5km event at Longrun Meadow and ended up coming third out of a field of 276 with a time of 17 minutes and 45 seconds.

Sam is a talented all-round sportsman: he plays for King’s Under 14 rugby team, is a district cricket player and a Somerset county hockey player and cross country runner.

This summer he competed for Great Britain at the European Championships in both the biathlon and triathlon in Portugal. Sam finished fourth individually in both events, and helped GB to secure team gold. He also finished third at the British Championships in biathlon in Manchester in August.

In recognition of his achievements, Sam has recently been offered a place on the Pentathlon GB English Talent Programme (ETP).

This programme has the ultimate aim of developing athletes to progress through the Pentathlon GB Talent Pathway.

Nick Gresswell, Director of Sport said:” Sam is a very talented all-round athlete and we are delighted with the way that he is progressing.

“He certainly did well in the 5km seniors’ race at Longrun Meadow at the weekend and it’s great news that he has now been invited to join the Pentathlon GB English Talent Programme”
