Rugby Sevens Returns to Taunton
On a glorious crisp spring Sunday morning the West of England rugby 7s made a welcome return to Taunton after a brief absence.
Thirty teams from schools as far afield as Monmouth and Truro made the journey to play in an exciting day of rugby 7s. In a unique collaborative effort between King’s College, Queen’s College, Taunton School and Taunton RFC, group stages were hosted at the three schools while the knockout finals were held at Taunton RFC.
In the U18 Cup, Bryanston School played exceptionally well to overcome an excellent Clifton College, while in the U18 plate QEH Bristol claimed the title after beating King’s College. In the U16 Cup Llandaff Cathedral School became champions in a thrilling match against Cheltenham College, while in a repeat of the U18 Plate game, QEH Bristol did the double against King’s College winning the U16 Plate title as well.
It was an incredible day of rugby 7s; the standard and quality of matches was exceptionally high and the organisers, players, coaches, volunteers, and of course the Somerset County Referee Society, should be warmly thanked for all they did to make the event such a success.
