OA Maddie Hinch was recently named Female Goalkeeper of the Year for a second consecutive year at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey Stars Awards in Berlin.

The Olympic champion was one of three international goalkeepers shortlisted for the global prize, with the final accolade determined by a peer and public vote.

It was a tough competition, which saw Maddie beat Netherlands stopper Anne Veenedaal, Aisling D’Hooghe from Belgium, USA’s Jackie Briggs and Dongxiao Li of China to the title.

Speaking to England Hockey, Maddie said: “I was overwhelmed by the nomination to be honest! To win last year was such a special moment in my career, so to go on and win it for a second consecutive year is just something I never imagined!”

Maddie first won the award after saving four penalties in a final shoot-out against the Netherlands at her first Olympic games in 2016, securing the gold medal for Team GB.

Her outstanding performance was widely celebrated, with the goalkeeper receiving much praise for her remarkable focus and determination.

Director of Hockey, Clare Hayes said: "We are very proud of Maddie for being voted Female Goalkeeper of the Year once again. She continues to be an inspiration for our hockey players, showing what hard work and commitment can achieve."

The King’s Schools community look forward to seeing her in action at the Commonwealth Games in April.
