OA Aaron Chapman Selected for England U20 Elite Player Squad

Former King’s College pupil Aaron Chapman is making quite a name for himself in rugby circles.

The 19-year old winger left King’s last summer after representing England at both U16 and U18 level. He then enjoyed a successful trial with Bristol early in the autumn, which resulted in him signing a professional contract.

Since then, Aaron has played three 1st XV matches for the Championship leaders, scoring two tries on his debut against Cardiff Blues, and one against Doncaster Knights in the British and Irish Cup, as well as several matches in the Premier A League.

The England selectors have recognised Aaron’s talents and he has now been included in the 32-man England U20 Elite Player Squad. The OA will now take part in the 2018 Six Nations, as well as the World U20 Championships in May.

The youngster, who hails from Exeter, said: “It’s pretty good news for me and came as a complete surprise. I had no idea that I was in any position to be picked, but this year the squad was selected on performance over the first half of the season.”

“I’ve done fairly well over the last few months and managed to notch up a few tries, which the club will have told the selectors about, and this is the result – which I’m pretty pleased about.”

Commenting on his life as a professional rugby player, Aaron, who was previously involved with the Exeter Chiefs, said: “I just love being part of the Bristol set up, and the environment is allowing me to express myself and make the most of my abilities.”

“It is hard work and the days are long, so I come home feeling tired, but I am doing what I love so I can’t complain. It’s certainly full on.”

Regarding his progressing career, he added: “Things are going in the direction I want them to and I am very much enjoying my rugby, so hopefully my future at Bristol is looking bright.”

Aaron’s next game is likely to be for England, but there are also some more British and Irish Cup games for Bristol coming up. We certainly wish our talented OA all the best in his forthcoming matches.
