King's to Host England Hockey Performance Centre

King's College, Taunton will once again be hosting the England Hockey Performance Centre for this area of the region.

Performance Centres are the next step on the England Hockey Player Pathway after attendance at an Academy Centre. Players are usually nominated to attend by their Academy coaches and can be nominated from ages 14 to 17 years after consistently showing talent and potential.

The centres run training sessions and competitions in two age groups – U15 and U17 – and are open to anyone who has successfully come through assessment from an Academy Centre or who is involved in National Age Group Squads (NAGS). Players attend evening training sessions and take part in weekend training and competitions, meeting approximately twice a month.

There are 17 Performance Centres across the country, and players attend the centre closest to them. Male and female players from around this region will be selected to train and represent the centre – based here at King’s College – in competitions against other Performance Centres in South West: Southampton, Bristol and Haslemere. From these competitions the players are then selected to represent the Wessex Leopards in the Futures Cup where they hope to work hard enough to be selected for the England U16 and England U18 squads.

Director of Hockey at King’s College, Clare Hayes, said: "King's is delighted to welcome the England Hockey Performance Centre once again. It's great to have these aspiring international hockey players onto our top quality AstroTurf pitches.”
