King's Hosts Inter-County Under 13 Hockey
King’s College has just played host to the Somerset under 13 girls’ prep school hockey team for their friendly fixture against their Devon counterparts.
Prep schools across Somerset were asked to nominate players, with 40 girls attending the initial trials, and 19 being selected.
The girls selected came from six
different schools: King's Hall, Wellington School, All Hallows, Hazlegrove,
Taunton School and Perrot Hill.
This season the teams have
played two fixtures against Devon, one at home at King's College Taunton and one away at
Lympstone Royal Marine Training Camp.
Somerset fared well in both games, with a 3-3
draw and a
1-0 victory respectively.
Clare Hayes, Director of Hockey at King’s said:
“These games were a great success and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
“We are organising a fixture against the under 13 Dorset JAC team later in the season, which we hope will be held at King’s – we are looking at possibly running this as a mini-festival with match teas afterwards!”
Clare added: “As this is the first year that this has run, we are hoping it will grow and evolve, giving players access to lots of hockey training and opportunities to play alongside the best within the county.”
