Harry Heads the GCSE Tables at King’s
Harry Cooper-Simpson has come top of the GCSE pile at King’s College by securing an extraordinary 11 A* grades in his GCSE exams. Harry is a boarder, who lives locally and went to Forres Sandle Manor Prep School before coming to King’s. His achievement is made all the more impressive by the fact that he is also heavily involved in the wider life of the school – playing A team rugby and hockey and taking an active role in the school’s Royal Marines cadet section. Harry has just returned from South Africa, where he was part of a month-long exchange programme set up between King’s and a school in Cape Town.
College is celebrating a strong set of GCSE results this week, following soon
after the excellent A level results of the week before. The A* and A rate of
40% is in line with results in recent years, underlining the school’s excellent
academic reputation. Eleven pupils gained five or more A* grades and 17 managed
seven or more As and A*s.

Lorcan Cudlip-Cook (6 A*s), Tom Hall (6 A*s), Charles Clough (7 A*s), Angus
Lyon (8 A*s), Rudi Smith (8 A*s), Oliver Martin (9 A*s), Veronica Parr (9 A*s),
and Toby Vickers (9 A*s).
which performed particularly well in the A*/A rates were geography (54%), Latin
(92%), music (89%), German (71%) and history (46%). Almost half of the school’s
year group took Design and Technology, which performed well again, with an
astonishing 70% of its pupils gaining A*s or As (including 38% gaining A*s).
Headmaster, Richard Biggs, was delighted with the results. “Our boys and girls
worked extremely hard to gain these strong grades and I congratulate them
warmly. I am proud of the fact that they also kept up the extraordinary range
of other commitments within the school during what is always a tough year and
remained cheerful and committed throughout. The great majority of these pupils
are returning to our Sixth Form, to be joined by new pupils from across the UK
and further afield, and will form the core of an exciting and vibrant year
am also proud of the fact that our pupils have succeeded in academically
demanding subjects. We have large numbers taking Latin, history and modern
languages. The creative arts subjects have also done well, emphasising the fact
that we are a school which provides excellent teaching and support for all
talents and abilities.”
