Girls' Summer Holiday Football Camp 2016
King’s College has just hosted the second highly successful Summer Holiday Football Camp for girls between 12 and 16 years of age.
During the course of the five-day residential camp, 20 girls enjoyed a number of practical sessions and spent time focusing on the principles of attacking and defending.
The group were also introduced to the game of futsal – a fast moving indoor format of the game – where older members present also spent time working towards their Junior Leaders’ Award.
Hosting Plymouth Phoenix, fielding two teams at Under 12 and Under 16, the group then travelled away to play against Bishops Lydeard FC, who provided great hospitality for the girls.
The highlight for many was the Thursday evening visit to St James’ Park to watch Exeter City play against Cardiff City, during which the girls took part in a penalty competition on the pitch – a great experience for all.
Chris Heayns, Director of Football at King’s Schools said: “The camp was a huge success and was attended by a large number of local girls as well as a number who had travelled from overseas to join us.
“Everyone who attended enjoyed themselves so much that they all went home wishing it could have lasted longer.
“We would like to thank Bishops Lydeard FC for the way that they hosted the girls and also Exeter City who made us all feel so welcome.”
