Eliza's Eventing Success
King’s College pupil Eliza Chapple is making quite a name for herself in the equestrian world.
The 15-year-old, who lives in West Somerset, specialises in one-day eventing, in which riders must complete three disciplines: a dressage test, a cross country course and a round of show jumping.
Eliza has just enjoyed a fantastic win on her new horse Enzo ven de Nethe at the Aldon International Horse Trials near Yeovil. This is a prestigious event with an undulating course over old parkland just outside Yeovil. Eliza won the British Eventing 100 Under 18 class, which is a qualifier for the National Championships at Frickley Park in July.
Eliza started riding at Mill House Equestrian Centre at Bradford-on-Tone, and is a keen member of the Devon and Somerset Pony Club.
This was her third event on her new horse, who is eight years old, and Eliza will now take him up a level to British Eventing Novice Under 18 classes.
Last year Eliza was a member of the South West Under 18 team of four, competing in the Junior 1* Championship on her other horse, Lawd of the Mill (Mickey).
Commenting on Eliza’s success, Julie Gressewell, Head of Riding at King’s Schools said: “It has been a joy to watch Eliza's riding go from strength to strength. She is able to successfully balance academic, co-curricular and equestrian commitments incredibly well, attaining superb achievements in all disciplines. I very much look forward to seeing where the future will take Eliza.”
She added: "We fully support riders at King's Schools Taunton and frequently compete in NSEA events; our younger riders are looking forward to competing in the Eventers Challenge finals at Hickstead in May."
