Captains Attend Leadership Conference

Written by School Captain Charlie Collins

On Friday we (the school captains) travelled to Wellington College in Berkshire to attend the annual Head of School's Conference.

The day started with a quick meeting where we were divided into several groups, and were given the opportunity to meet various other school captains from schools all across the country. After doing so, we attended two lectures: one from the Headmaster of Wellington School, who imparted invaluable lessons on leadership, which he had learned on his recent trip to the South Pole; and one from the Headmistress of Wimbledon Girls’ High School, who gave the keynote speech about the importance and features of inspirational public speaking.

After writing brief speeches in small sections, we then broke out into our groups for the afternoon discussions. These included how to ably communicate with both pupils and staff, ways we could improve our school prefect system, and ended with a group presentation on the principles and virtues of leadership.

It was a hugely rewarding day for us all and we would like to warmly thank Mrs Byrne and Mr Biggs for the opportunity.
