Big Band Visits to Prep Schools
Last week, our Big Band travelled to St Peter’s Prep School in Lympstone and Polwhele House in Truro.
As part of the interactive
music sessions that the Big Band regularly deliver, the prep school pupils
found themselves totally engaged, joining in with the music.
Our pupils introduced a variety
of musical instruments from the different sections - including saxophones,
trumpets, trombones and the rhythm section – explaining what roles they have in
Trombonist Tom Hall particularly
enjoyed the visit to his former school, Polwhele, where he showed off his
skills to his old school mates.
The band played an eclectic mix
of music, from The Incredibles and some Latin-American songs, to a rousing
rendition of Uptown Funk. Their final
song, Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance
With Somebody, got the whole audience up on their feet…even the teachers! There
were opportunities for the prep pupils to try out some of the instruments after
Before leaving, the band were delighted to meet Tim Roberts,
a year 8 pupil at Polwhele who will be joining King’s as a music scholar in
September this year.
