Big Band Visits to Prep Schools

Last week, our Big Band travelled to St Peter’s Prep School in Lympstone and Polwhele House in Truro.

As part of the interactive music sessions that the Big Band regularly deliver, the prep school pupils found themselves totally engaged, joining in with the music.

Our pupils introduced a variety of musical instruments from the different sections - including saxophones, trumpets, trombones and the rhythm section – explaining what roles they have in the ensemble.

Trombonist Tom Hall particularly enjoyed the visit to his former school, Polwhele, where he showed off his skills to his old school mates.

The band played an eclectic mix of music, from The Incredibles and some Latin-American songs, to a rousing rendition of Uptown Funk. Their final song, Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody, got the whole audience up on their feet…even the teachers! There were opportunities for the prep pupils to try out some of the instruments after the concert.

Before leaving, the band were delighted to meet Tim Roberts, a year 8 pupil at Polwhele who will be joining King’s as a music scholar in September this year.
