Try Something New with our Multi-Sports Academy

Great news for our #waterpolo coach. Congratulations Simon Tomlinson @wyvern2126! https://t.co/mO8OyQ6qq1 - 13 hours ago

The Modern Pentathlon is one of the oldest sports in the Olympic Games. It comprises five different events: fencing, swimming, show-jumping and a combined laser shoot and run.

Nowadays, competitions come in many different formats and participants do not have to do all five disciplines to get involved. Hence why, in 2014 the King’s College Multi-Sports Academy was launched. The Academy enables King’s Schools athletes, as well as the wider local community, to partake regularly in a range of disciplines.

Our pupils have already achieved a number of accolades in the Modern Pentathlon, with Year 8 pupil Nicolas DuToit representing Great Britain at world level, and King’s College pupils Sam and Josh Cobb competing at the World Triathle Championships, among other GB events over the last few years. Other members of the Academy have also competed at national and international level.

As a former GB pentathlete, Head Coach Lydia Rivett (nee Rosling) set up the club to offer children and young adults in the area the opportunity to participate in the sport. Having competed in Modern Pentathlon from grass roots through to world class level, Lydia has an in-depth understanding of the sport and the training requirements for athletes at different levels.

Lydia says: “It is great to see others enjoying the sport and I am passionate about helping people reach their full potential whilst having fun at the same time.”

If you are interested in getting involved, or would like to hear more about the King’s Multi-Sports Academy, please email: LCFRivett@kings-taunton.co.uk.
