King’s College, Taunton are the new Somerset Under 18 County Indoor Hockey Champions after they beat Millfield School in final of the competition at Wellington School earlier this week.

The final was certainly a thriller and with just three minutes remaining, King’s were trailing 2-0.

However, thanks to some excellent individual play from Caspar Sambeth, who tackled the Millfield right-back twice, driving to score both times, King’s levelled the scores at 2-2, with the game going into flicks.

Joss Chippendale scored first for King’s. However when Millfield missed their next two attempts, pressure from our goalkeeper Matt Osborne saw Millfield hit the post twice before their final flick was forced wide ensuring we were crowned Somerset champions for the first time since 2013.

The tournament was hosted by Wellington School and during the course of the competition, King’s played in a number of close games against Taunton School, King’s Bruton and then Queen’s College.

Both King’s and Millfield will now go through to the South West Regional tournament that will again be hosted at Wellington School on Sunday 1 December.
