Three riders from King’s have been selected to be part of the South West Regional Youth Championships at Frickley in July. Ellie Clist, Lara Chapple and Matti Mercer will form three members of the ten-person team – a fantastic achievement to have three riders from one school representing their region.

The Regional Team Championships are one of British Eventing’s key youth events. The competition sees ten riders from each of the regions; Scotland, North, Wales and West Midlands, East Midlands, Central, East, South West and South East, competing, with the best four scores counting towards the team results.

All the selected riders have qualified for their respective championship level over the past 12 months and, along with the team championships, riders will also compete for the individual title in both classes.

Commenting, Head of Equestrian, Emma Edwards, said: “The girls have worked so hard to achieve their places on the team. We are incredibly proud and can’t wait to see them in action next month!”

This selection follows soon after Lara, Ellie, and Lucy Buckley all competed at a number of other competitions. In a large field of riders, at Nunney International Horse Trials, Ellie finished 5th in the 100 U18 class, with Lucy finishing 7th in the 100 Open. Lara then competed at the Berkshire College of Agriculture Open Novice U18, finishing in the top 20, while Ellie went to West Wiltshire and placed 6th in the 100 Open.

Emma added: "Our riders regularly travel to compete in prestigious events around the country, demonstrating their commitment and dedication to their sport. They all thoroughly deserve these successes. Our team continues to go from strength-to-strength each year."
