Another term, another fantastic season of rugby, made all the more glorious by the cold and muddy conditions that our pupils have experienced this term. We have celebrated a number of achievements, including selections for Somerset and a fantastic final fixture.

Throughout the Michaelmas Term our pupils have been working closely with the Bristol Bears rugby team. Fourth Form pupils Oliver Wrelton and Charlie Sharland have been playing as part of their Player Development Group (PDG), while Fifth Form pupils Billy Turner and Ethan Jordaan represented the union squad in an U16 academy match against South Africa.

Other successes include 1st XV Captain William De Boehmler, who was selected for Somerset, and for the Public School Lambs trials alongside Edward Middleton and Oliver Walrond.

Exciting things have also been happening on the school pitch, with Director of Rugby, Ed Lewsey, arranging for England Rugby and Exeter Chiefs player, Don Armand, to deliver a number of rugby masterclasses with our players. Don helped the pupils to develop their individual and teamwork skills, and build on their game knowledge. We hope to welcome further professional players in the new year.

A real highlight of the term was the final block fixture of the season, in which we won six of the eight matches against Taunton School. The King’s 1st XV, who enjoyed one of their best runs for many years this season, brought the year to a close with a strong 14 – 7 win over their local rivals.

To round off the long and successful season, we held our annual End of Season Awards. Congratulations to the following pupils who all received recognition for their hard work this term:

U14As – Jake Wakeling (Coaches’ Player) and Josh Thomas (Players’ Player)
U14Bs – Tom Day (Coaches’ Player) and Will Moulden (Players’ Player)
U15As – Team awards will be announced on conclusion of U15As' run in National Plate competition
