Here at King’s Schools, we are starting 2018 in high spirits, as this year marks the beginning of our latest project. We are finally able to announce that over the coming year we will be working closely with Netherclay Livery Centre to develop the King’s Schools Livery Centre.

From the Summer Term 2018, we will be offering access to a self-contained yard of eight stables to pupils wanting to bring their own horses to school, and a comprehensive riding programme for pupils who do not own their own horse or pony.

As part of our Wednesday afternoon activities, we provide riding lessons at local BHS-approved riding schools, Drake’s Farm and Ilton and Cannington Equestrian Centre in Bridgwater. We can cater for all abilities from complete beginners to experienced competitors.

King’s is located close to the Netherclay Livery Centre, which boasts an impressive 74 acres of land, two floodlit arenas and direct access to off-road hacking.

For further information about this fantastic opportunity, please contact our Head of Equestrian, Mrs Emma Edwards at EMEdwards@kings-taunton.co.uk.

While we look forward to a bright riding future, the new year also provides the opportunity to look back at our successes over the Michaelmas Term. The King’s Schools Equestrian Team enjoyed a successful year, and in November became Somerset County Champions, after qualifying for the NSEA Championships. The National Finals are set to take place at Bury Farm this April.

Third Form pupil, Luli Loveridge, has been on excellent form. She has performed in a number of equestrian events across the country, including the International Show Jumping Festival and Longines Royal International Horse Show. Luli has just qualified for the second round of the Winter Premiers, which start later this month.

Talented rider and Fifth Form pupil, Karis Chambers, is looking forward to her upcoming competitions. After placing third at the Mitsubishi Motors Cup last year, she will now compete alongside the nation’s top riders at the British Eventing 100 National Championships in May.

Finally, the King’s Schools Pony Club Team enjoyed considerable success in 2017. A real highlight was their win at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in September. They were the only team over the course of the competition to jump clears and end on zero faults.

Fourth Form pupil and all-round sportsman, Sam Cobb, was selected for the South West team after placing second at the competition, with Third Former Fred Fisher, being selected for the Southern England team.

We hope to continue building on the success of the past year, and now look forward to building new relationships and opportunities, and, of course, even more impressive achievements.
