Joining King’s at Age 11
King’s Hall School, a prep school for children aged 2 to 13, and King’s College, a senior school for 13 to 18 year olds, provide a wonderful, seamless transition for children moving from prep and primary schools at age 11.
When it comes to the move to ‘big school’ at age 11, many parents assume that the best choice is to progress straight to a senior school that has an 11+ intake and runs all the way to age 16 or 18.
At King’s Schools, we have a different way of making this key transition.
In our two-site model, pupils joining at 11 begin in the more intimate atmosphere of King’s Hall School, where they find their feet before moving at 13 to our senior school, King’s College. Experience has shown us that 13 is the best age for children to join older boys and girls in a new school environment and this approach avoids the need for one huge leap to a large, new senior school at the age of 11.
Our two-school model is, we believe, one of the key reasons King’s Hall School and King’s College are such special places, bound together by a network of trusting relationships at every level. Young people here learn to be confident, energetic, happy and well-rounded individuals, equipped with everything they need to succeed in life.
Each school is located on its own distinct site with its own Headmaster. King’s Hall School has a stunning 50-acre estate in the foothills of the Quantocks; King’s College has 75 richly endowed acres close to the centre of Taunton.
Continuity between the two schools is seamless. From early on, pupils at King’s Hall School visit King’s College to use some of its excellent facilities and to absorb its atmosphere. Later, the great majority of King’s Hall pupils move on to King’s College at 13. They are with their old friends, but they join other pupils from a wide range of schools, expanding their horizons and widening their peer group.
