“Joy, exuberance, confidence, passion - I have to come to realise that this is how King's goes about its business when it comes to the arts. ”
Arts at King's
Alongside sport in the huge number of opportunities available to pupils outside the classroom, King's College has a thriving artistic and cultural life. The corridors of the school are regular exhibition spaces for our pupils' artwork, and end of year exhibitions feature work of the very highest standard.
Our design and technology department has won the Good Schools Guide A Level Award for Design and Technology four times, and our pupils regularly win prestigious Arkwright scholarships.
The drama department puts on numerous productions throughout the year, from the experimental and innovative to the huge blockbuster on an epic scale. A recent production of Les Misérables was described as "the finest school production I have ever seen."
The music department has a full and busy schedule of rehearsals every week, leading to small-scale Octagon concerts for players of all abilities, full orchestral and choral concerts in the Chapel, and external concerts given by choirs and bands. The Chapel Choir were winners of the BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir of the Year in 2007, and past pupils have gone on to a range of musical pursuits including choral scholarships at King's College, Cambridge, scholarships to leading conservatoires, and fame and fortune in the pop world as composers and performers.
