Admissions Procedure
All enquiries regarding admission to King's College, should be made to the Admissions Registrar, who will be very pleased to arrange an appointment and may be contacted by telephone (01823 328204), by fax (01823 328202), by email (admissions@kings-taunton.co.uk), or by letter to The Admissions Registrar, King’s College, Taunton, Somerset TA1 3LA.
Pupils are normally admitted between 13 and 14 years of age, subject to a satisfactory report from their previous school. They must also gain a sufficiently high mark in the Common Entrance (or College Scholarship) examinations to give grounds for confidence that they are capable of following the curriculum of the school. Special arrangements are made for pupils who wish to enter from maintained schools, or from schools which do not follow the Common Entrance syllabus. A few pupils also enter the school at the beginning of their GCSE courses.
There are places at 6th form level for suitably qualified girls and boys. Candidates for these places are asked to contact the Admissions Registrar during the Michaelmas term immediately preceding the summer in which they are to sit their GCSEs. Later applications for entry into the 6th form are also possible, and are considered on their merits.
Although King's College is a Church of England foundation, pupils who have not been baptised into the Church of England, or who are not Christians, may be admitted to the school if their parents signify that they are fully willing for their sons or daughters to be present at all the corporate acts of worship and to receive the ordinary religious instruction of the school.
King's Hall is our associated preparatory school, and provides education for girls and boys aged between 3 and 13. Application to King's Hall should be made direct to the Headmaster, King's Hall School, Kingston Road, Somerset TA2 8AA.
Boys and girls may be registered for entry to King's College at any age, with confirmation of final entry being received at least one year before the due start date. The registration form should be completed and returned, together with a non-refundable registration fee of £75, to the Admissions Registrar at the above address. Cheques should be made payable to King's College. A receipt will be sent confirming the registration. Please let the Admissions Registrar know of any subsequent change of address.
