Lord Lieutenant's Cadet

King’s College pupil Venetia Maitland has kept up the school’s remarkable tradition of pupils being appointed Lord Lieutenant’s cadets. She received the official appointment at a ceremony in The Bishop’s Palace, Wells, and has already started her duties.

Venetia has been a member of the school’s Combined Cadet Force for three years, and is something of a veteran of the annual Ten Tors Challenge, having already completed the 35-mile and 45-mile routes. This summer she hopes to add the 55-mile challenge to her impressive list of achievements.

She has appeared in countless drama productions at King’s, most recently the highly acclaimed West Side Story, and in athletics is the current Somerset County 100m and 200m champion. She has played for the girls’ 1st hockey team for three years, and sings in the chapel choir. She was a popular appointment as one of the two school captains at the beginning of the year.

When she leaves King's after A Levels this summer, she hopes to go on to drama school, and hopes to make a career in acting.
