A summer scene at King’s as evocative as any is that of Dennis on his tractor systematically flattening the first eleven cricket square. His stories of playing next to Ian Botham and Viv Richards against the world’s best are legendary. The cricket festivals and the English Cricket Board Centre of Excellence recognition reaffirms Denis Breakwell’s status as our guru of cricket. Neither is this solely a male domain - three of our girls represent the county in cricket.

For rugby players the excitement of reaching the final stages of the Rosslyn Park Sevens or touring Australia have been key experiences in the last year. They have the confidence that comes from meeting a recent old boy returning to donate his prized England rugby shirt for our wall of international shirts. The 1st XI hockey girls, Under 16 hockey boys, Under 15 girls netball and Under 14 cricket boys have all taken county champion status of late. Girls hockey sides have Millfield as their local rivals but have still managed to reach national level in recent years. British representation in tennis, fencing and orienteering has also been achieved. The soccer players have faced the junior sides of AC and Inter Milan as well as those of Barcelona.

What if you like different sports? Mountain biking, shooting, riding, canoeing, aerobics, water polo, sailing, sub aqua, yoga and fitness are amongst the many alternatives to mainstream sports to tempt you. Sport in one form or another is most certainly for all.
