Carpenter Fashion Show

Girls from Carpenter House at King's College in Taunton have raised over £450 for charity with their recent highly entertaining fashion show.

The 52 girls in the house turned future stars of the catwalk for the evening, all in aid of DebRA, a charity that provides care and support for people with Epidermolysis Bullosa. This genetic skin condition, which causes the skin to blister and break at the slightest touch, was highlighted in the recent TV programme The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off.

The challenge laid down to the girls was to model their own garment, which had to be made themselves, either entirely from scratch, or an adaptation of an existing garment. Everything from black binliners to crisp packets to a silk evening gown was on show, and the climax of the evening was the appearance of school captain Venetia Maitland, in a wedding gown made from a pair of net curtains.

"It was a fantastic team effort from the house, said Venetia . "We were so moved by the programme, we felt we had to do something. This was the best way we could think of to raise as much money as we could for others, while also having a lot of fun ourselves."
